We’re multidisciplinary designers and fabricators.
We build things like custom furniture and millwork, Film & TV sets and props, prototypes, and other unusual things.
Our work finds its home in TV shows, private homes, testing labs, commercial environments, and in public.
We serve the general public, corporate clients, architects, designers, production companies, inventors, construction co-ordinators, and more.
ABOUT
I’m Alan Reain. Reain Custom Projects is the home for my work and that of my rotating cast of collaborators and partners.

Many years ago I graduated from University with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, and a determination to do interesting things. After a circuitous path through building electron beam accelerators, carpentry, millwork, and set building, I started Reain Custom Projects in 2015, setting up shop with my frequent collaborator Ali Morbi of Morbi Design. I finally got the chance to build spaceships of a sort, when I was recruited to do detail design for Star Trek properties including “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”. There my role was to bridge the gap between artistic intent and physical reality: designing in 3D CAD how we would actually build the things that had been dreamed up. The experiences and techniques I was exposed to there have were invaluable in expanding the capabilities of Reain Custom Projects.

You’re a homeowner, an entrepreneur, or a business owner. Maybe you have a napkin sketch, an idea, or just a problem that needs a solution. We’ll work with you to figure out your needs, iterate concepts, choose suitable materials and finishes, build, install, and manage any necessary outsource contracts or subtrades. When suitable we’ll work with 3D CAD to produce designs and renderings that help you visualize the end product.
CAD DESIGN
Detailing, Development, Documentation.

You might be an inventor, designer, construction co-ordinator, a general contractor, or another shop owner. Maybe you have a set of drawings or a 3D model that expresses an idea, but not the details of how to build it. We’ve spent years bridging the gap between designers and builders. We can take an undeveloped design and break it down completely in 3D CAD so that it’s ready for your in-house team to execute. We’ll establish construction methods that make sense, produce any digital fabrication files needed, and hand off a shop drawing package that your builders can work from. We can produce shop drawings, CNC files, 3D prints - everything your in house team needs to complete the build.

Building things. It’s why we do this, after all! You have a pretty good idea of what you want. You need a fabrication partner with the skills, facilities, and network to produce a finished product you’ll be proud of.

We've spent our entire careers amassing knowledge and experience with a myriad of materials and manufacturing processes. We have a deep foundation in woodworking, but we also work in metal, plastic, foam, composites, and a variety of other materials. Whether it's machined, cut, carved, glued, welded, cast, vacuum formed, 3D printed; we can get the finished product that you need.

If you have files that are ready for 3D printing, we can do that in house.
If your digital assets aren’t quite ready to hit the start button just yet, we offer design refinement and file generation for CNC routing, 3D printing, etc
We have a network of suppliers not open to the general public who provide CNC routing, laser cutting, and other services.
